Shimano Tyrnos Not Holding Preset Drag

Has anyone had the problem of their Tyrnos not holding the strike drag setting. The drag setting will be come lighter during the day. Any help? I know I have heard a few people talking about this just looking for where to turn for the proper repair.

    I think

somewhere I read about this problem and I think i remember the fix.

The strike drag knob loosens throughout the day.

The fix is to back the knob all the way out, and find a rubber o-ring that will fit around the knob snuggly. Then screw the drag knob back in.

The added "girth" (yeah i said it) should keep the drag knob tighter.

He is exactly right. Get you some thicker o rings and the problem should be fixed.

On another note, if you use the reels for billfishing, there's something else you may want to consider. Shimano has made a sailfish lever (part# TYR2030LEVER) for these reels that fixes the loss in range when fishing light drags. This will give you 6 lbs at strike and 10 lbs. at full drag. When you're trolling, you run the lever at one click past free spool. This will give you enough tension to hold baits without creep and make it super easy to put it in freespool since it's only one click away on the range. It will also give you a full, even range of drag from freespool up to the 6 lbs at strike. These new levers will make this a completely different reel.

Guys thanks for the help, that is why you gotta love SFC. Squid, do I need to order the levers from Shimano directly?

You can order them from any tackle store or from Shimano directly but will probably be faster to get it from your favorite store. If you have any trouble, give me a call. (I'm the Shimano rep for eastern NC, SC, and VA)
