Question Shimano Triton trolling 80 ?

I just got an older Shimano Triton trolling 80. (Looks like a TLD but its an 80) I was just curious if anybody knows what the drag numbers are or are supposed to be. Is it comparable with the Tiagra 80's? I am thinking of using it for a planer rod.

Has anyone happened to document the breakdown and/or upgrading of this reel? I was getting ready to pull it apart but stopped because I was afraid I was not going to be able to get it back together since I have no exploded view.

Anyinformation on this reel would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

I've got one that I used as a planer rod. You can lock it up tight and it will pull like a mack truck! Drag on it is tough as nails. I think mine is over 20 years old and still going strong!

    I got two

I bought two off of ebay last year, one for the planer and the other for WWWB. One of the two was new in the box and the booklet came with it. It has the exploded view and parts listing. I will see if I can scan it at work and e-mail it to you tomorrow.

I would be interested to hear if the drags interchange or you find a place that sells them. Mine are ok but I really like them and figure having a set of drags for the future wouldn't be a bad idea...

Triton 80w...I have a half dozen of em... Love em! Single speed doesn't bug me a bit . Smooth as silk... I run at 22 pounds usually with some days going to 26...
I have triton beast master 90's and ther though tough have issues... There are soft plastic plates that get etched and the reels lose freespool or drag... They also have a lousy time if they get wet...

I use that reel for a planer rod and have had no issues. If you need parts/service, there is a shop in California called Reel Connection that was recommended by Shimano to service older reels that are out of production. If you need the number I will dig it up at home and email it to you. Good Luck

E-mail sent. Scanned the whole book for ya. As far as spooling it, I would put 500 yards of 200 hollow core. it won't fill the real so I would use mono backing, sorta like a reverse topshot. I can't see putting hundreds of dollars worth of hollow core just to fill it up (i.e. 1500 to 2000 yards plus) when it is doubtfull you would need it with so much drag anyway...unless your targeting something much bigger.

Witch, if you could post up the number, I wouldn't mind having it and others may stumble across this thread in need of it as well - Thanks

    Thumbs up

Witch ... echo that. Id love the number. I have no idea what I am going to find when I open up this reel.

R-Dub, Trini, Foul, and the rest that contributed here... I cant thank you enough for your generosity and effort. Here I am ... a stranger and you guys take time out of your day to make sure I find what I need. Great stuff!

    Cheers!
