    Shimano Baitrunners vs. Quantum Cabos

    Hey all...

I'm in the market for some good offshore spinning reels and wanted to get your take/opinions on Shimano's Baitrunners (4500B or 6500B) or Quantum Cabos (60 or 80). I've heard a lot of great things about the Baitrunners but haven't heard much about the Cabos. Thanks for the help!

Great site by the way! I'm still new to it, but the posts I have read have been very educational!!!

Baitrunners hands down! Love mine to death and put them through the paces from kings, to spanish, to sharks, amberjacks, big blues, tuna, albacore, dolphin, giant reds and pancake tarpon. Never failed me once.

Go with the Shimano, you will not be disappointed. I ran the baitrunners for several years and shelled out the extra cash for the Thunnas last year and absolutley love it.

I like the baitrunner fine but I'd step up to the Thunnus which is the same reel but with a metal body. It's also smoother than the Baitrunner. I prefer either to the Cabo which does'nt have the best reputation for holding up in the salt.

I use the bait runners also

besides a leather glove on your left hand.....does anyone have a drag hack for any offshore spinners. Special stack of washers and what grease to use. I have the 45 baitrunners so that would be a nice start if you have any for me on this real. I am not looking to increase drag. Availablibility of local shimano parts might not be always there on that special day. You can order from shimano. I have a local guy with older penn drag washers of different sizes I could trim down and use if they would apply?

    thanks Flat

    Thumbs up

Shimano baitrunners are brutes they are heavier than cabo's but I think they are stronger.. The smaller cabo's are good for light inshore and backwater fishing ..They have great drags and are pretty tough.. But for heavier applications I use Shimano BR4500 ..

The baitrunners are a better built reel! We have had both on our boat as for our main spinning reels for our charters...Shimano holds up much better!
