    Senator 9/0 Trouble,

Hey guy's, I've got a problem with 9/0 Senator's. They are breaking the "clicker" spring retaining nubbs. The old style had 2 rivet's that held the spring in place. The one's I have now have a screw and 2 plastic nubbs that are supposed to hold the spring in place. I just bought 5 of these reels ,used 3 on one trip and 2 of the 3 have broken the plastic nubbs, now no clicker. I don't know if the screws weren't tight enough to begin with(they have what looks like blue lock-tite on the threads) or what happened. I have a total of 17 Senator's currently, just bought two 12/0's today for my bent butt's. I used Senators for years while commercial fishing with no problem's like this. That's why I stuck with the Senator's when outfitting my current boat. It's not that I dislike the "gold" reels, I just like simple. The dealer that I bought the reel's from has called Penn and left messages and his Penn Rep has called, so far no response from Penn. What's going on , is this the NEW PENN CO. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently dead in the water with BRAND NEW GEAR. Frank,SeaPower

    senator problem

I'd like to take a look at the plates. The molding in the left side plate may not be correct. It may be a run of plates from a outside vendor that had a problem.Wouldn't want to really guess without having the reels in my hand and maybe having engineering or the Q.A. Dept. at Penn take a look at them. I'm the lead service tech. at Penn Reel Mfg.If you want, you can give me a call tomorrow and we can talk. I won't be back at the factory till Monday morning. What I would suggest would be to send the reels to Penn attention to me in the service dept. These reels will be covered under warranty and will be serviced at no cost to you.Hope I've been of some help to you.

    Take care..............Tom

that's good service there! First Class

I have fixed or serviced a lot of Senators myself and can't say that I've ever once seen that problem.

    Good show Tom!!

I have been a faithful Penn user my whole fishing career and am a little nervous about some of the stuff I see now with the Penn name on it. Keep up the good work and keep Penn products at the top in quality.

    Thank you....

Thanks guys....like to keep the invitation open.Any problems or questions anyone may have with any type of Penn product, please feel free to contact me.We're doing our best at Penn to keep the lines of communication open to all of you.We made a nice little tour of some tournaments this past season (including the Shark,Tuna and Mid-Atlantic tournaments in Cape May,N.J. and the White Marlin in Ocean City ) and were very well received.

    Take care and tight lines......Tom

I had the same problem with 6/0 HLW's. Bought 4 at the same time and all 4 failed on same fishing trip. mine did not break any plastic nub's just the screws fell out.I took them all apart and put lock tight on the screws and never happened again. A call to PENN and the response was that I probably left the clicker on during fish battle and they vibrated loose, I always click off after hookup so that was not the case. Anyway it didn't really matter the response because it never happened again.

    screws

You're correct. For a time they had a problem with the screws backing out on the click spring. What they do now on the assy. belt is like you did, they apply a small amount of lock-tite on the threads to prevent it from backing out.My running complaint with them was that it shouldn't matter whether you leave the click on all the time or not......the screws should not back out due to vibration. They didn't seem to get it till they got more than enough customer calls on the same problem.Any questions you may have, drop me a line.

    Take care......Tom
