    SEEKER IGFA80LG Blank

Thinking of trying this blank for giant bluefin. Would match it with a 130 penn or tiagra.

    Here are the specs:

    SEEKER IGFA80LG
    Length: 6'6"
    Line: 80
    Tip: 24
    Butt: 1.01
    * How much drag pressure can I put on this before it breaks? 100lbs?

Another choice would be the 130 seeker, but it is shorter, and I like the length of the 80:

    SEEKER IGFA130-B
    Length: 5'10"
    Line: 130
    Tip: 29
    Butt: 1.19

    Third choice, CALSTAR RT130

    Length: 6'6"
    Line: 130
    Tip: 26
    Butt: 1.08

Goal is a FLEXIBLE rod that is fished from the gunwale (no chair). Extra length gets the fish away from the boat, and acts as a shock absorber to waves. More forgiving.

    Thoughts on these?

    80# CLASS TACKLE

This is hard to answer. You do know that these blanks are designed to have a Uni-butt installed, which will extend the over-all length of the finished rod.(?) Fighting fish from the rod holder isn't really sport fishing, so I'm guessing you're selling these tuna. If so, I'd advise you get a swivel rod holder too.

As far as how much drag the blank will take before it explodes under these parameters, I doubt that it would stand up to 100 pounds. It's an 80# class blank, so it's designed to lift less than 80#'s of drag - which is why they make a 130# blank as well.

If you do use an 80# blank for this, be sure to wear safety glasses.

yes, I know that a unibutt is to be installed and that the aftco one will extend it a couple feet. yes, we fish right from the swivel rod holder - and we do sell the fish. not sure what "commercial" vs. "sport" has to do with anything.
I also figured the manufacturer would build in some tolerances to these rods - so that at 79lbs it is ok, but at 80lbs it will not blow up....but, that is why I was gathering some opinions on that. I will never put more than 100lbs, in fact, very seldom do we get beyond 80lb, but it is nice to have the option. thanks for responding.
