    Roller guides - When?

What are the advantages of roller guides and when should they be used? I have one rod with a roller stripper guide and tip. It is fine as long as the line is tight but as soon as there is any slack it is more prone to having the line bind in the roller guides than in the standard ones.

All my bigger tackle (50# plus) has all roller guides. But I don't like any rollers on 50# or less, they are a pain in the butt. And I personally see no advantage.

Roller guides can be used any time. The line is binding because you are using braid. When you ise either Pac Bay rollers or Winthrop tool rollers, it will not bind. The reason is that the edges of the rollers are actually built into the side walls of the rollers.
Aftco rollers leave a slight gap between the roller and the wall.
