SiC, or silicon carbide, is the name of a ceramic material. Many fishing guide companies use SiC and the name. The name 'turbo' has sort of become a generic term between companies for a style of guide...not just Fuji. Sort of like calling a hand saw a 'skill saw'. Many companies make this type saw, but only one company actually is called 'Skill'.
To be honest about the plastic sleave butts...I've never seen one broken during battle unless it was from fighting a fish from the rod holder (which they aren't designed to do). That far down on the butt and the blank isn't going to be bending. Even if it did bend some, the bushings inside the butt would most likely absorb some of the load w/o breaking the butt. Personally, I detest unibutts as I feel they are a couple inches too long (for me). You can put together a slick butt setup for about half the cost, save quite a bit of weight, and end up with a package that puts the reel closer to your body's center of gravity (with an 8" butt vs. the unibutt). Remember, this is only 'my' opinion. Everyone has their own preferences...and I've built plenty of rods using unibutts as well as slick butts. I'm just giving a different perspective...PLEASE don't say I'm just being negative...I'm forming a complex.![]()
On a rod like this you certainly want to go with Fuji rings unless you're going with rollers. This isn't a time to skimp.
