    Reel advise

I have aquired a Fenwick Salstick #SSGC789 6'-6" 1-6oz 15-50 line. I will be using this rod for offshore wreck fishing and Tile fishing (depending on line capacity). I am leaning towards the following reels: Shimano Taigra 20A 2-speed or the Tiagra 30 2-speed. Any questions, comments or concerns will be greatly appreciated. Tight lines

    Try the Torium

Try the Torium 30 by Shimano. Or possibly the Diawa Saltista. I have not used the Saltista but wholeheartedly trust my source as to it's capability...
The Torium is a great reel with a very high speed retrieve...Fill it with power pro and you got a great reel set up for the wreck action. Good luck. Holwachagot

My vote is for the Daiwa Saltiga first, Daiwa saltist second, Shimano trinidad & torium next. All great reels that can handle braided line. I personally do not favor lever drags for jigging or bottom fishing. Free spool and proper drag setting are problematic for lever drag reels in those applications.

Tiagra's seem heavy (weight wise) for bottom fishing. I have a couple Avet LX that work great.

Thank you all very much for the info Now its off to the tackle shop and throw a couple of these reels on and see what shakes out Seabiscuit, I use to live in Wilmington NC. I attended Cape Fear Tech for seamanship. Tight lines.

    Tunaman,
do you ever make it back down here?
Seamanship at CFCC is cool, as are all their marine related fields.
Try the saltist. I use 'em hard and love 'em. At $170 they won't break the bank.

I meant to say Saltiga, not Saltista. Not that the Saltista is bad, I just don't know. I do know the Torium is terriffic and if Seabiscuit uses the Saltiga...well, nuff said. HOLWACHAGOT

I do alot of bottom fishing off the MD, Del and Jersey coasts for tog and seabass . When fishing fairly shallow , I use the Torium 16 with 30 lb PP paired to a 6' St Croix musky rod . I can fish weights up to about 14oz with this set-up . When fishing deep water (200+ft) , I go to a Trinidad 30 with 80 lb PP and a heavy Crowder Jigging rod . In the winter off Jersey you have to use a hell of alot of lead to get down and you never know when your gonna hook up with a monster pollock , cod etc. This set up is also good for chunking for tuna . Alot of the Jersey headboats go night chunking and you may end up taking laps around the deck with a big fish on and this rig is fairly light so it's easier to maneuver around the boat .
