    Newbie Rod Builder

I am rod building newbie, or hope to be. I would like to start building a couple rods from light weight inshore rods and eventually I would like to make a planer rod. Are there any books or videos that could help me get started. Or does anybody offer a class near MHC or raleigh nc.

You should check out Advanced Rod Building by Dale P. Clemens. However be warned there are 2 different publishing dates for this book. The original was a 1987 print & the new one was published in 2008. I'm not sure of what exactly is difference between the 2 versions but the 1987 edition is considered a collectors item and is priced that way, usually atleast $125 or more on e-bay or through Amazon. The '08 can be had for about $28 on amazon. The guy that taught me a few things back when I started, Ken Preston, put a DVD out that is sold through Mudhole.com. Don't have the DVD but have seen a clip from it and if its even half as detailed as the few things he explained to me it's worth the money. Also might want to check out rodbuilding.org, lots of great info on there with a lot of guys that own there own businesses. Hope this helps.
