    Question for Paul

Last year was the first I noticed... This year a couple times now... It would seem that my entire rods are twisting. I've had problems in the past, most often on the heavier stuff with passengers jacking the gimbals off or even loosening the reel setas. I upped the game to aliminum butts and the blow ups stopped.
Now I have noticed that the blanks themselves seem to be twisting. I had a couple sticks guides lat year get so out of line I had to have them re wrapped. That was on one set of sticks. Now I'm looking at three different builders sticks and see the guides getting out of line and particularly the tips cocked over at an angle.
Any clue what causes this and any sugestions to keep it from happening? Damn re-wrapping is not cheap on the big stuff. A spin rod might be $7-10 plus guide but the big sticks cost me almost as much as it did to have em built in the first place... .

with the guides on top you will get twisting or torque with heavy loads
it is usually noticed in the last few guides on a rod under load
the acid wrap takes the twist and torque out of rods

i was just working on a rod with the same problem
the parts on the rod were not really that good
i wont go into bashing here
but i have noticed that a lesser quality guide/ tip may not hold up to heavy loads as well as a better brand

feel free to give me a call if you need any more info
i would like to hear about the problem a little more

I'm seeing more roll in the tips than the other guides. Ferrule cement in tact. No visible twist to the coat. They catch a bunch of fish. Getting it with both aftco and stuart guides. Even my tld 25 sticks are showing some with fuji's. So actually four different builders and three different guides. I've had these sets between five and ten years. The five year olds were first. The eight year olds just starting. The tld 25 set is the oldest and showing the least but still some. The five year olds get the most use through the year. Last year they were effectively wrecked and needed redo.
One stick bugged me today. She sees use only in mako tournies. Mothballed the rest of the time. I'm almost sure that when I put her up she was straight. Today though she was noticable change. Her last use she took a brutal bend that I though would bust her. Pointed off the transomwhen the fish shot up past the boat then under the bow. Still she didn't show issue at that time. Now she does...

can also happen how you store them.

if you store the rod with reel on it, and have it vertically leaning against a wall, the tip holding on the wall, you will see the reel will be offset in weight on the right side(handle side), and this can twist rods over time, saw it happen on a rod i had an avet on over the other winter.

not exactly sure if im understanding correctly but couldnt that be caused by the blank not being splined properly?
