Question about Downrigger Clips

Here is the scenario; trolling large(12-16 inch) live caballitos and mullet with a z-wing on a downrigger. Question; what kind of downrigger clip can be tightened enough to not allow the bait to trip out the clip when scared, but will allow fish such as marlin, shark, tuna, etc. to grab the bait and run with as little resistance as possible, prior to setting the hook?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even if they call for a complete modification of the above described system.

I am still experimenting with this idea but it seem to be working pretty good, I put on a tied loop ( maybe use 100# Dacron) about 10' above my planner, then I tie a loop on my main line, say at 75' - 100'. Then I use telephone wire and tie the two together like you would a break away sinker. On the planner maybe 7 or 8 wraps and main line maybe 3 or 4 wraps. When the fish hits the weaker wraps part.

When you pull the planner up, the loop is high enough that the planner stays in the water. If you want to pull the planner out, the loop and telephone wire is small enough to go through the guides. It seems to work great. Let me know how you like it.
