My guess is the fish was being fought out of the rodholder....
Yes the fore grip is maybe too long but I would doubt it very much if the fish was being battled in true stand up fashion....

I do know ..But look how far down the line hits the grip..If the grip is 14 or 16 inches even at strike you would see a problem were the first guide is placed..
I think its a poorly built rod & the first guide should be a #47 wind-on & than steped down to a #Hd51..& if it was static deflected the builder would of saw the problem..
Just my two cents........
Point of origin has nothing to do with quality. I deal with imports from all over the world all day at my desk job and with my jigs.
Quality is all about setting specifications and ordering based on specs. In fact, China is better at production than anyone in the world, however they build exactly what people tell them to. If you let them set the specs, your in trouble.
If you sets the specs, they will make you one or one thousand, exactly the same every time.
I see people point the finger at China everyday, however they have 4 pointing back![]()
Did they tell them NOT to use lead paint and they did anyway? Like I said, If you leave it up to them, you will get cheap.
Point the finger.
This is kind of spammy.... The rodbuilder who builds the rod in question is by far the largest builder in the New England area and does decent work...With that being said I would venture to say that they have sold over 1000 of that particular model with out question, and without ever seeing a post like this before with the photo of the grip being burned up wonder if this has happened before. If you look at the grip and it is very easy to say oh shorten the grip, put a taller stripper guide on and so forth, but look at where the burn starts, bear in mind I believe he puts 16 inch foregrips on this rod, with maybe a 4 inch butt wrap with both tie offs included, think about where the burn starts do you think that a shorter foregrip is the answer I do not... Maybe you could bring the stripper an inch or two closer to the center of the reel seat get the line up off the blank a little bit to prevent the line from hitting the blank...
But think about the amount of pressure that the angler would have had to put on this fish if fishing stand up gear, to have the line hitting the grip 8 inches off the reel... I would think the lever and fulcrum theory would have the angler lifted off his or her feet with this much pressure being put on any fish.
With that being said could the rod have been put in a rod holder and the drag put put way up past strike trying to gain some line back on a big fish with underrated gear for the opportunity that presented it self to the fisherman, That is where my train off though is taking me right now... Think about the westcoast guys that fish the rail on 300 lb plus yellowfin with 18 inch foregrips and Aftco 51 Stripper guides, using the rail as a way to shorten the fulcrum as the head boats out there do not have gunnel mounted rod holders as fighting fish on regulation tackle out of the rod holder became popular up here in the northeast twenty years ago... And for another builder to attempt to promote his own product in a situation where he offered no detail other than it was a embroidary job rod and did not have a such and such brand in during the battle is weak... Get us more facts on how the fish was being fought please...
Now on to the other part of this thread, the company that builds these rods is a competitor of Local Hookers, with that being said and having been to the competitiors shop is there a 20 minute quick cure finish, no two coats of flex coat are used.
Are the rods preassembled in the orient, no he tried it once and the seats came loose in his hands before building them, are the guides just slapped on, maybe they are wrapping fast with d thread, and are pretty quick at it as the owners nephews have been wrapping for twenty years... Man the spam is getting to hot to eat....

That would put the first guide around 24 or 25" from the reel if I read it right...The only rod I have with a aftco 51 that far away is a factory seeker 6455xxh w/c..
With a shimano tld30lrs on full drag ..I could not even get the line close to the grip...Again I dont know...But I would think you would see the line close to the grip when building it...
CC you right we dont know how it was fished...
Richie
I really can not see the line getting into the grip that close to the reel with an angler holding the rod in a belt with out getting taken over the side oth the gunnel... And for the spine issue... I can not figure out what the deal is with that, the line seems to be deepest in line with the center of the reel...
