Whats the best way to connect plug to 30# braid? I have a 9'tica plugging rod, and a penn 650 ssm ? rod is rated @ 1 to 3 oz.

From what I gather from your question you are trying to use surface or shallow (1-6 foot) hard plastic lures or chuggers that you are casting from land (under bridger, banks, or rock piles). If thats the case I hope this helps.
Most guys will put a 36" leader of Mono between the plug and the braid. Getting the two different materials to stay tied together takes some practice but you will notice more strikes with the mono leader especially in clearer water. Remember that 30# braid is usually a lot stronger that 30# mono so use a stronger leader material than your spooled line.

    Catch em up!

Join a piece of mono or flouro to your braid by tying a uni-uni knot. Cinch the knots to each other, trim the tag ends, then tie on your plug with another uni knot, or a palomar.

If you end up using a leader that is a good bit bigger than the braid, end the braid in a 6 in or so loop with a triple surgeons knot. Put the rod in a holder, hold the braid loop in your left hand and put the tip of your ring finger at the end of the loop and hold it tight. Take your leader and put the tag end in the little loop that you've made with your finger. Pay attention to the direction you put the end through the little loop. Take the mono and wrap it up the doubled main line 5 or so times. Next wrap it down the mainline, and back through the little loop.

Take your right hand and wrap the braid around it a few times. A glove will help so you don't cut yourself.

Take the leader section, not the tag end, and grab it with your left hand. Take your finger out of the little loop. Pull on the braid and the leader and the leader will tighten into a pretty little barrel knot. Trim the tag end and you're in business.

I know this knot has a name, but I can't recall what it is.

    Happy fishing.
