Building facilities manager and (part time)charter capt
A word about them Domars, years literally years ago my wife got me a pair for a gift. they broke the tip edge of the pliers after some use and I just put them away. Since she had got them for me at boater's world I figured one day i would take them in. Acouple more years passed and instead of taking them to the BW in Annapolis i took them to the Salisbury store since I had moved to the OCMD area. I was'nt expecting much since years had passed but to my surprise, Boater's world contacted Donmar and they said send them! They came back with new jaws just as good as new and have been great ever since! There are not many companies/manufacturers, dealers/distributors that stand behind their product like that!
Thanks to boater's world and hats off to Donmar!
from a charter point of view, you simply cannot beat a good pair of manleys. I have a pair of old school donmars, kinda like the 850's. the jaws like to loosen up so you have to tighten them periodically, and they like to get slippery so I wrapped them with half-hitched rigger cord. the blades are kinda dull, but they've never been replaced. I do like the fact that they dont corrode much if any.
For the value, I don't think you can beat the Calcutta stainless side cutters or their needle nose either. The only thing with the side cutters, I wouldn't try sevenstrand with them. It seems to dent the blades, but on single strand, braid or mono, they're awesome. They won't rust and seize up if you forger to oil them. I've got a set of each that I've for going on 3 years, and absolutely love them. And the price ain't bad either. app. $22.00 a pair. Just make sure you get the stainless ones with the grey handles.
