    Penn VW

With all the bad press on the Penn V series lately, how does that effect the VW series?

Looking for a couple 50's, and I really prefer single speeds anyways.

I'm not buying tiagras for patriotic reasons, so they are out.

its really between the VW or finding the older T's and TW's,

Who has experience they would like to share, positive or negative,

    Thanks,
    Ric

screw the patriot act man!! lol
buy the tiagras dude.. your supporting the local economy by buying them from a local tackle company in your area or online from the site here...

the older penns are pretty strong and i do like them very much and have never had a problem with them..

the newer stuff as far as i know is being made offshore but i also heard that the internations have stayed in the us..

either way i think that shimano has, and always will build a superior product!!

FWIW Avet is made in the USA. Can't speak as to their quality but not sure if you had considered Avet's.

You know I never thought about supporting the local tackle shops by buying the tiagras, you have a good point there...I may re-think them as well then.

But my main question is are the VW's a good reel or are they having the same issues as the VSW's & VSX's

dont know about the same issues or the issues you are talking about.. all i know is the older ones are dynamite.. i dont like the vws, or the vsws or anything other than the tw!!!

i am kinda a simpe guy but i would go all tiagra or even go with all accurates if i hat the coin to throw around and spend the money..

what i would also look into depending on what you are using them for the aleutecnos's..

i got two aleutecnos 50w's and they are freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hold a ton of line and they are powerful and soooooooooo smoooth!!

    Penn International reels

Hello....in regard to the VS Series reels, they've been pretty steady. In first run series years ago when they were introduced, there were some updates and revisions that they went through.Right now, very decent reels. The drag range is very consistent and smooth. It now has a newer oversized shifting button for the 2-speed option. And the series line itself extends from the baby 12 all the way to the 130.I also agree with your statement about the older TW series reels. There are a lot of those reels out there still in use.Single speed, straight forward solid reels. And all parts are still available for all your International reels. So even if you had a old 50 or 30 International that needed a complete overhaul including drag system,we could handle that with no problems at all.
Penn has always took pride in having all parts and trained techs. available to service all your Penn equipment. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me.

Take care and Happy New Year to everyone......Tom

    Me Again

Hello......also forgot to mention about the single speed VW series reels. The single speed reels that they are producing now are pretty solid. They've been run for awhile now,and we've seen very few problems with them.Same specs. as your older TW reels but cosmetically they look a bit different.

Tom/Penn: I think I read somewhere that the older VSW's has some issues. Are there any updates or modifications to them done under warranty or something?? I have a couple 50VSW's with the push button shift mechanism that are working fine, but if there is something I can do to avoid a problem while on a 2 day canyon trip, I'd be glad to do it now.

    Thanks,

    John

i would also like to know what you guys are now using for the finish on the internationals!?

the older tw i know all about. a good friend of mine actually sold you guys all of the materials to dip them and cover them with their clear finish to make them pretty fade and scratch resistant..

i am just wondering since i know they are not buying from him anymore where are they getting it from and what are they using at this time.

    thanks in advance!
