by the way, congrats on your fish the other day. you guys staying up there for awhile?

I can vouch for Scotts. and there excellent service. have been doing business with them for quite a few years with no complaints and only good things to say about there dealings.

Penn is struggling, but have some great people...

I don't like to jump on a company when they are down, but right now Penn is down because of the multi-company transition they are forced to go through.

I suggest you keep working with Thomas from the service dept. at Penn because he will be able to best help your needs right now...

It took me several months to get a similar problem solved, but once it hit the right peoples desks, they dealt with it well.

As a consumer we have come to expect instant gratification because of Wal-mart and K-Mart...Etc

These (Internationals, Tiagra's, Accurates) are not THAT type of product, it's highly specialized and you need to find a good source to help manage your tackle. It's kind of like my F-250, great vehicle, not without issues for sure, but if you find a really good service group you'll feel a lot better.

In my book Shimano has earned the best in class service award over the last 5 years...

Note the word "service", all reels need some kind of service. The mixed alloy problems you are running into require a different comment and review, but the only companies who deal with this head on in the U.S. are Accurate, Avet sooo...It comes down to a compromise of pocket book or experience, one is required for you to solve this problem because everyone else uses components made throughout the Asia "belt" which means mixed alloys and a variety of corrosion caused because of this...

Another simple solution is to keep a rag soaked with Corrosion Block that you wipe your reels and rod butts with to prevent anything from developing...

Whatever product you buy, you need to consider your maintenance program for the product...It's just a fact of whatever you buy...At the end of the day we're lucky to have Penn, Shimano, Avet, Daiwa, Duel, Accurate and others...
