Penn 8500SS problem

got an old 8500ss reel that I just recently cleaned and greased. I notice before i did this that every once in awhile the reel would not lock up. I'm guessing it has an anti-reverse lock on it but not sure. Once I got the reel back togeather, everything worked fine but now the reel does not lock up. What I am trying to explain is that you can spin the handle either way and it turns. Any sugestions would be a gig help. Planning on going surf fishing this weekend and need it working by then. Thanks!
