I have a penn 16vsx great reel no problems with it yet.I use it for trolling, jigging, and chunking at night for tuna. Great all around little reel for offshore fishing with spectra. It has proven worthy to us with some nice size fish taken on it.

16vsx Ill agree with spectra its a great size for trolling, jigging and chunking tuna in the canyons. I'd go penn personally.

    16 or a 30 ?

I got some holiday cash that is burnin a hole in my pocket. I was thinkin a new pair of rods. Most of my tuna fishin is on the troll. How is the 16 for that ? the position I gotta fill wood be spreader bars off the tips, jets on my flat lines ? How long a stick should these be on ? 5'6" 6' or go longer and use it on the jig after hookin up ?

B.C. if they are the 7' rods, the 16 may be to big and heavy for those.

i like the handle on the shimano,
but i would go wit the lightest of the 2 reels.
    either reel will be nice.

I recently bought a Tiagra 16 for a Mag Bay trip.....installed a handle form Tiagra 30A for the benefit of my arthritic hand....sweet reel.

I agree with the other posts.
I used mine last year for chunking YFT and had no problems.
    Spooled with 80# spectra.
