Any input on the roller guides and metal uni-butts? Looking at a few rods that have this hardware.
Good, bad, ugly?

I haven't used the guides - so I can't comment. The butts are perfectly fine. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Pac Bay and AFTCO without the logo.
Well i found a good deal on some custom rods on ebay...so i thought.....

Take a look at the first guide...something seem wrong to you?
First roller guide is backwards???
Stay far away. No telling what else could be "hidden" from view.
Interesting, I was to talking with a solid charter captain tonight about the rods we are coming out with..The first thing he said was make sure you use AFTCO butts..which is a given..so I asked him to elaborate..long story short..he had two PB butts blow out at the connection..don't know on what class or the conditions..of the stress associated with the failure.
I love their reel seats, the channel lock ones. Their guides, I'm not sure of. I spoke with the rodbuilding guys at a tackle/rod shop in CT, mostly offshore stuff, and they said go with Aftco Unibutts. They had a whole bin full of Pac Bay's with blown retainer pins, or ones that had to go back because the pin wasn't aligned in the first place! Another friend who is a Capt told me he had some blow out on fish and they switched them off during the fight!
Scary stuff, real scary stuff. Going to stay far away i think
Does anyone have experience with these rods? Curious about the comment regarding the stripper guide being backwards, can some of the rod experts on the site please comment on this? New to offshore fishing and trying to find a good entry level Tuna/shark rod and thought these looked reasonable but now have some concern too.
Thanks,

From what I have seen, it doesn't make a ton of difference which way the stripper roller goes.
