    OKUMA TITUS

I would like some reviews on the grahpite T50W version. I am going to use one for deep droping off of the North West Coast. This is my first Okuma reel and if it can't handle Blue Fin or Thresher Sharks I am sure it will make a great Halibut reel.

I have one. It has caught a few blue sharks to 200 lbs and a few small BFT to 60lbs. The Graphite reel is the lowest in the Okuma titus line and the T50W has some issues with sticky drags out of the box. I would not push the drag to max rating for 2 reasons, the drag will not last and the grapite frame is a week link.. The silver has a better drag then the graphite and the gold is the best in the line.

straight garbage. I have 20 of the T20's that I use for charter fishing striped bass. They work and I can fix them or get them fixed easy. Everything breaks all the time. Thats about it. We spool with heavy line when trolling so I dont get worried about loosing a big fish, but I wouldnt use them for anything with any amount of power.

Great product. open the box, take out the reel, throw it away. Now you have a nice sturdy box to store another reel.

I have a couple of the graphites and a couple of the golds. They are fine if your an occasional weekend warrior. The golds are definately better quality the graphites, but both have caught a couple of sharks over 250lbs. If your only out 3 or 4 times a year the graphits will hold up fine. If your out alot go with the golds, if your livelyhood depends on them try Penn. I myself think they are fine for the money especially the graphites, I think I paid $125 for each of mine on ebay and Ive never had a complaint. I wouldnt use them for a big money tournament but then again I dont get to do that often(0 to date).

Regardless, I'm sure every reels has it's problems.
I have 4x T30 and 4xT50W and have had great fun with them and are happy with there performance. Tail hooked a 40kg Sailfish on a 50 and she peeled 300m of line with no stickiness or overheating. My thinking is if the reel is so cheap buy the reel and use it until it packs up and then trash it.
My gear get's soaked with salt water dropped and abused on about every trip and I try to maintain them as best as possible so buying expensive gear it not the answer for me, I have walked that road.
I you know your ganna take care of it and not use it every day Buy what you hard say buddy.
Okuma is young and they are still learning the fishing game, there improvements over the last 5 years speaks for it self. I still prefer Shimano above all but if you want the best you will pay the price.

Spend the money the first time around and get a decent reel. I had one but had nothing but problems. Get a TLD 50

Buy some TLD's instead, drag will be 50x better, and the reel is a lot smoother. Tht TLD will hold up to a lot more abuse then the titus graphite will. As stated above, they will be ok for ocassional use, but if your targeting fish of 200+lb I would not use them, for what you spend to get out there you'd be putting your reel at risk. I would surely not ever hook a titus graphite reel up to a harness, your asking for it to break then. If you keep the drags low, below 20lbs and know they have a limit, you can get by with them, I know some of our budgets aren''t as large as we want so they might suit you well, but personally I'd recommend tld's, they will last longer and not need to be replaced down the road like the titus will, to me that is money saved in the end.
