Oh Caleb (AKA Caleb's new jigging rod)

This will be Caleb’s first look at his finished jigging rod, all he’s seen to this point is a bad cell phone picture of the butt wrap.

While fishing a while back Caleb mentioned that he would like a good jigging rod, and being a new builder I told him if he trusted me I would be happy to put it together if he got the components. Here is the finished product.

Thanks to Kevin Knox for working with us to get all the parts and pieces.

    Rod Stats:
Blank: Riley RR-TT-7224, cut to 5’9” all off the butt making this about a 200 gram rod.
Guides – Fuji BMNAG (NZ Acid wrapped to the left).
    Reel Seat – Fuji
    Rubber gimbal
I can’t remember the reel Caleb plans on putting on the rod, other than it is gold and black.

As always any feedback positive or negative would be appreciated.

Nice work Ponce! That is one heck of a nice rod. The detail on the wraps is unreal. Now Caleb needs to show us its first stress test!

Thanks for the comments guys. I feel I'm improving with each build.

Kevin, with my limited knowledge, understanding and experience fishing with a NZ rod Paul built for me is: The NZ wrap helps the line lay a little better (center) on the reel, but you still get all the benefits of the spiral wrap. I know with my rod I can put as heavy of load as I can rest on 2 fingers and there is no twist or torque on the rod. I’ve caught up 80 lbs. AJ’s on mine with no twist.

Paul and Jim (SeaDraggin) have done a lot more research into the NZ wrap and I’m sure could speak better to its benefits

Wow Jeff, transforming fishing tools into artwork... Nice Work.
So Caleb, will the first fish be a hard pulling AJ or a tasty Scamp?
