    Newbie needing advice

I want to build myself a decent custom rod but I have zero experience and knowledge. Can anyone suggest a good book, or other source of information I can obtain that will tell me what I need for equipment and how to use it. I also would like to hear opinions on what type of fiberglass I should use for a decent quality rod. I have pretty much ruled out graphite. I like the lightness, but the stuff breaks. I have seen it do it on a number of occasions.

Kevin Knox (FLATLINER) did a wonderful set of videos showing the step by step process for building a rod - http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...ep-502241.html

Much better than reading it in a book.

There are also some very basic thread wrapping videos here -http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building-101

The hard part is deciding what blank to use. First decide what and where you will be fishing. Calstar, Seeker and others make fine fiberglass blanks E glass is very tough and used in lots of inshore and offshore tuna rods. Mud Hole carries the blanks. Also request their paper catalog as it has lots of useful information.
