I have two boys one is turning 3 and one is turning 8. I want to get them both new fising poles for their birthdays and was hoping for some suggestions on a deacent pole for them. Since my boy (3) will probably just be casting and reeling it in I thought a small character poll kit for about $20 would be good thats what I started my other son (8) out with at that age. So I would like to know what a decint pole is for my 8 year old. I was at Sports Challett and the guy was telling me to get him an enclosed casting reel so he doesn't get the string all tangled up. I looked at on of the reels and saw that it didn't hold very much line. And I've let him use my pole w/ an open spindle and he did fine. What are your opinions? Whats better a one piece pole or break down? And what's a few good brands (not to much $$$)?
That really depends on the type of fishing he is gonna do. If it is gonna be freshwater or light saltwater, a combo from Walmart would probably work fine. Something like an ugly stik comes to mind. You can pick up the combos for 20 bucks and up.
Get them each their own Penn tuna stick 50lb class, with Penn 30vsw reels, fully spooled with the 30lb class line of your choice. That away when they put them off to the side and forget about them....well they end up on your boat!
Your job......should you choose to accecept it, is to make sure your sons never forget about those rods, and they fish with you as often as possible!
