I'm new to the tuna game, and unfortunately dont have the money for penns or shimanos. looking to find someone who has used these reels, looking for how they preform and hold up. any info would be greatly appritiated!!! I would be using these reels for medium to large tuna/sharks thanks....fishingmatty

If it were me I would get some shimano TLD 50 LRSA, not gold but much better than okuma

go to rivermarinesupply.com. best price around on the tld's. really worth getting the tld 50's over the okuma, the drag system is way above and beyond.

Sorry for the bad info. Just check there. They must have recently changed their pricing. They look to have gone up dramatically.

for the same money look for shimano Tritons. Obviously they will be used but they can be had fairly cheap. They are only single speed but will hold up better then okuma's. If two speed is a must, the shimano beastmaster is a good reel as well.

Parts will be an issue however it will get you in the game with decent equipment.... best of luck.

Most guys will bash the Okuma, they are 30 weight reels with a 50 name. We don't get out to the stream much so they fit our budget and we love them. Search AlanTani, he has some great tips on these which we did. Got 6 TG50WII and pulled them down to service drag and grease internal for corrosion prevention. 4 with light use are in great shape, 2 still new. We use them for striper with unbrella/40 oz. mojo, a few AJ's and little offshore. Ebay new around $200-$250 shipped. Light tackle includes a pile of Shimano.

Save your money and go for the TLD's. Trust me on this one.

put it this way....you may save money if you buy okuma now, but you will lose it in the long run because you will have to replace them a lot sooner.

My great grandfather used to say "buying cheap is expensive"
Always buy quality and you will save big bucks down the road.

Agreed .... I have had more than one Okuma fall apart in my hand with a nice fish on the line.... the first would have been my first billfish. The new TLD's are an amazing reel for the same money and actually get the job done. Dont worry about the pretty gold color. Only googans really give a crap about that anyway.
