    My FIRST rod build EVER

First, I'd like to thank Shoe for all his help. He's a great teacher. The pacbay kit Shoe put together (see other thread) was perfect to get started. And by stripping my old tuna sticks and reusing some of the parts, this rod cost me about 100 bucks to build. I made PLENTY of mistakes. But it looks a hell of a lot better than my old tunasticks. I'm sure I won't make nearly as many mistakes on the next one.

The rod detailing is simple, all black with silver bands at the ends of the wraps and a marbled finish from the stripper guide wrap ramped up onto the grip.

Im interested in how the hosel was created? Could you elaborate a bit..makes such a nice transition from the handle to the blank.

Awesome job Chum- that is truly impressive for a first run at rod building...hell, that would be impressive for someone that had been doing it for years!

I'm glad that you're enjoying rod building- it's so rewarding, especially when line is screaming off of it.....

Looking forward to seeing the others!

Awesome - Very nice job on the rod. It sure is addictive. When are you starting on the rest of the set?

I've heard you Yankees do something bassackwards - tell me you just got in a hurry to mount the reel?

Canyongear - Gradywhite273 did a great set of videos on leather grips - the epoxy ramp is part of the process... http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...eos-32928.html
