Good evening everbody, Let me just say this is an awesome site. Been following SFC for a while. MR. ALAN TANI IS THE MAN! My name is Justin, 30 years old. I'm a die hard sandflea (surf caster). I live in leland NC fish Wrightsville, Carolina, and Oak Island Beaches. I fish conventional gear slosh 30's, abu garcia blue yonder, daiwa grand wave 20 on st. croix, breakaway, tica, sealine x rods for anything biting. I love sharking and casting to spaniards and blues. I just traded some junk for a penn 450ss and 440ss (score) with a guy. Bad news is the anti reverse doesn't work. They insides are caked with old grease and grime.I'm cleaning up now but was wondering if anybody has ever fixed this problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot, BunkerChunker
My guess is that after cleaning out the old grease/grime/slime and smegma, you will see that the dog spring is probably broken, or just too totally junked up to work properly.
Check out a schematic and you will see the part I'm talking about.

Justin, first welcome to the site. I'll be home next week and will be glad for you to come over and I'll walk you through it, but I will guess that the spring has either poped off or is broken, easy fix. If it is the 450, look under the rotor and see if it has a leaver that you can flip, some have an antireverse leaver...
