i was wonder the depths people prefer to start wen looking for bluefin. my family owns a 24 foot walk around and we are planning a trip out just south of the northern section of the mud hole (around the BA bouy). i was just wondering if this is a good area to start looking. we have all the equipment to chunk, troll, or jig. any little tips would be appreciated, thanks

    bluefin

I have caught bluefins from the ba all the way down the west side of the mudhole, seems the water has to be there, recently there has been warm dirty water up that way. no good for tuna
later hopefully sept, oct nicer water will move in and there are fish to be had in that area. first light, trolling small feathers, cedars, small green machines have worked throughout.target all of the lobster pots on the west wall. also try to setup and anchor on some marks or wrecks up in the area, chunking later in the year is normally productive, just watch the weather , it can be a tough ride home when it comes up fast from the NW and it often does
    good luck
another note, saturday running in from offshore I did not mark much bait or fish from the 40 line all the way thru the mudhole. the most bait I read was from the west wall of the mudhole inside a mile, marked lots of bait, birds and slicks.
looked good in there, I was out of time so I didn't try it.
this was at 7pm in the afternoon

    HOW TO

    HI:
ALGDOG was correct. Small 4-6 inch lures work super. Small feathers as in Tuna Clones, or Tuna FINGER FOOD or any othe the small plastics will work. Mt preference for your area will be Green, Zucchini, red/white,Blue/Yellow Natural or Purple/Black depending on sea and sky conditions.
Natural would be a start color along with ZUCCHINI. Red/White and Purple next. Purple a great OH DARK THIRTY or evening time color.
HINT...HINT...HINT... Stagger the colors from the 2wake wave back to the 4th wake wave.
HINT...HINT...HINT... Run the 4 INCH CEDARS ON THE OUTSIDE of your propwash and CHINE WAKE. They run best there.
HINT...HINT...HINT... Runa three T'ZER setup in front of ALl your lures. WHY?
'Cause Tuna come THRU your spread from the sides, never from the back. It's EASY for a Tuna to MISS your lure if it swings thru that propwash and wite water. Add a three T'ZER setup out in front of each lure acts like BIG SIGNPOST saying "HERE I AM,COME GET ME. It creatres a HUGE EYE CATCHING and TUNA HOLDING PATTERN that Tuna CAn't miss. See my website and see how they are made.
HINT...HINT...HINT... Add a TUNA BIRD in front of three of your lures to create a BIG spread of white water and ACTION that will draw TUNA and KEEP THEM IN YOPUR SPREAD.
These are some of the tips I give when I give seminars at fishing clubs and shows.
    Now get out there and:

    PS:
I used the above info up in Nova Scotia for BIGEYE and Giant Tuna. I just made the lures bigger and slowed my trolling speed dwon.
