One easy way to find out. Slide the EVA on (loose is fine. Tape the hook in, and put the whole thing in the bathtub. That should give you a decent idea.
Filling the shaft with foam will just reduce the possibility of water entering the shaft. But I lost one - foam filled too, No EVA, just cord wrapped.
The EVA grips add a lot of volume for very little weight...

I tried cramming the tube with pool noodles to try to get it to float, but didn't get to test it out yet. Good to know that it won't work! I try to cap off each end so the water can't get in. I found that the little caps on the gun cleaning brush tubes fit in the ID of the larger tubed nicely. Just gotta trim down the edges, epoxy in and then putt the butt cap over it.
