    Lure Care

At the end of the season what is the best way to store your lures through the winter? Is there anyway to prevent the skirts from getting stiff?I lay the skirts straight but have noticed some skirts aren't as flexible the following year.

on lures skirted with hair (islanders, sea witch, etc), a good conditioner will go a long way towards keeping the skirt nice. on plastic and vinyl skirts, make sure that ALL the salt water is rinsed off of the plugs and be sure to let them dry thoroughly. then I store then in a ventilated lure back or other container with plenty of air flow. try not to over crowd the plugs, as this will cause them to trap humidity and make the skirts sticky. alway, always, always de-rig your plugs when you store them. it will keep rusty hooks from staining your skirts, and gives you a chance to check your stuff and redo what needs to be redone

    Cool

Our are stored in Tuppeware containers and seem to be ok from year to year.

Check the humidity level in that tackle room.

Of course you could always add new to the collection like we all do.

I'm a ventilated type too. I'll even add those silica humidity absorbers to the containers too. No substitute for total salt removal and a quick soak in downey added to distilled water for the next to last rinse....then just distilled water.
Pledge may work on some skirts too. No overcrowding...that was a great one(FD)...that may be the most common mistake, overcrowding. Second may be mixing skirt materials...some will deteriorate others....keep like materials by themselves.
I wonder what the mfg's use to finish or get the release from the mold or whatever...some skirts are quite slippery when new...that oily stuff may be the best, but I don't know what they use.

all the illanders and other hair skirts i try to wash very good after use and take a peice of monel and hang them from a close hanger. seems to work great for me.

as far as sea witches i just cut them up and save the heads and start to re tie them during the winter. Same goes for most of the rigs.
