Hey Dory, You might appreciate this one. This was an old, rotted dory that my neighbor gave me. I repaired it and mounted it on a trailer bearing so it pivots. I had the sail made by a local sail shop for cheap money. The mast is pvc pipe. It makes a great flower garden. I decorate it with flags for the 4th of July and I have 12-volt Christmas lights that I string on the sail and along the gunnel at Christmas time. It's a real tourist trap. People are frequently stopping to take pics.

Now thats a weather vane! Very cool. You definately do not want to be gardening when a front is approaching. The wind shift could be painful.

This one took a lot of putty and fiberglass. I painted it with two-part polyurethane primer and paint. The rotten rub rails were replaced with plastic. I had everything except the sail and paint kicking around the shop. Oh yeah, the trailer hub and bearing came from Northern Tool. I poured nineteen bags of cement under the boat for support. That was the hard part. I'd like to make a smaller version and maybe take a full size mould from this one so I can build a couple fiberglass versions.

hey storm, can you give me some insight to the design and function of the transom of your boat?

Do you mean the lack of a transom? The open transom arrangement allows lobster trawls to be set/dragged off the boat. It also keeps the traps closer to the water so they have less tendency to flip over as opposed to setting them from a stern deck or wash rail. The crew doesn't have to physically lift the traps up to set them. In fact, I can set a fifteen trap trawl without the crew having to touch any of the traps. It also allows for more available deck space for lobster trap storage.

Nope. I seldom get water on deck. There's also a five inch step-up into the wheelhouse. I can flood the deck if I back down hard into a sea.
