The assurances that I get from the manufacturer are that the veneer will not fade or degrade as it is a natural product and since it is covered with finish, it will not be affected. I have had a piece outside for over a year now and have no difference in appearance. As for bending, I strongly caution and only put the veneer on buttwraps and the first guide. If they want it above that, they get it knowing that there might be cracks in the finish, longterm. When I put it on the guides, I actually precrack the veneer by bending the rods after each layer of finish is applied. After the 3rd light coat of finish on the guides of this offshore rod, no cracks were evident. Again, I apply it for my rods and and customer request only. Full disclosure.

Thats american tackle finish. No rod is perfect, but this one looked good except for one spot. I like it and it flows nicely.
