Last week during the Mid Atlantic tournament I watched a guy tying double line on a rod. When he was done I asked him what the knot was called and he said a Knotless Bimini. I was going to ask him to show me but he didnt seem real eager to talk so I went about my buisness. All I know is he flossed the hell out of it. I use the Austrailian Braid but I would like to know how to construct a Knotless Bimini. I know how to tye a bimini its the knotless part I need help with. Any help would be much appreciated. Standing By.
If there is no half hitches at the end to finish the knot off. Thr friction from sinching down the half hitches causes a weaknes in the line and would make the knot maybe 80% or 90% compared to 100% of the lines breaking strength. Thats why I like the Australian Braid, there is no knot everything is braided then the tag end is weaved back through the braid. In my opnion the knot is 100% if tyed properly. I dont like not knowing something like that.
Hey Bobby, I know of another way to finish the Bimini w/out half hitch, which probably exerts less friction, but is definetly a knot. Maybe that will help, and its sure a lot quicker that an Australian.
Oops forgot to change log in

I use a bimini, but was thinking of switching for the same reasons that you stated, not to mention I never trust the finishing hitchs so I allways add glue.
My question is how long is your braid portion of you austrialian braid. Ive seen were people say that for 50lb test it should be 8" long? sounds like overkill!
If you do the braid plaits tight like you should (must) - For 50 lb. about 2.5 inches is fine, before you double up the tag end and braid it back to finish off etc (this section about one inch or a little less is fine). For heavy tackle I use about the length of my forefinger, maybe 3 inches, before the tag end is doubled.
Just my opinion but if you tie a bimini right - it'll break in the mainline - does the half hitch at the end of the knot really weaken it that much? If it did you'd expect one leg of the double to break when the knot was tested to destruction?
bobby, i have been trying to figure out a knotless bimini in my head, and i just cant seem to picture one. i dont see how it could work without finishing off with some hitches. its actually starting to bug me a little, so someone out there must have heard of it.
or it was some mate messing with your head. . . lol
Shark, No it is for real I saw it with my own eyes. The tag end looked like it was brought between the two lines of your double line and then it looked as if he flossed it tight so it couldnt pull back out. I know a guy who can do it I just have to track him down. Chuck, the mate on the FINISH LINE I believe he is from Costa or Cabo is supposed to know how to do it. Thats the word on the street anyway. Im not sure if the half hitches at the end of your bimini decrease the breaking strength that much but I know I dont want to find out. Your conection is your weakest point I thought. And I thought the reason behind it is because you are creating friction when you sinch the kot down, even if you wet the knot first. Im not sure if this statement is correct just my reasoning, I have never tested it.
Sorry Captain D,
When do my braids they are on average 4" long when do it with 130lb it is alittle longer and on the 4" it si 2" of tight braids then 2" of loose ones which my tag end is weaved back through then the tag end and all the loose braids are flossed tight. It hasnt failed me yet. I try to stay away from super glue on anything cause last time I glued a knot when I picked the rod up to se the bait out the seat cushion came with it. The knot didnt move a bit but it was tough to get the cushion to go through the guides. Then again they werent Big Foot Wind on guides either.
