What is the best knot to use when connecting Power Pro solid braid to 80# test Momoi mono?

Double your braid with a bimini, to an Albright. Make sure you wrap up AND down when tying the Albright. Some people only wrap up and back thru with it. Hope this makes sense.

The yucatan is a new on on me. Looked it up and found a few different versions of it. Anyone have directions on this? I've always done the uni, but can't say I'm 100% pleased with it. looking for a knot that work going from braid to heavier floro leaders as well.

(ps... not a fan of using my feet, legs, johnson, both elbows and two hands to tie a knot).

You probably don't want to hear it but...

Many other serious jiggers and myself have been hurt so bad by failing Power Pro that we consider the knot used to be a secondary problem. You can go ahead and find out for yourself but after you make up excuses for losing nice fish and find it happened to your buddies as well, the damage is already done.

As you know jiggers are using heavy line and heavy drags and are more apt to find a problem than those trolling at 25 per cent drag of rated line strength. We often had the equivilent of 50 lb test break at 17 or so. Many occurences. Line was always new or real close. Failure was definitely LINE, not knots.

Yea, I know ...for many years you couldn't say anything bad about IBM either!

    So VaRandy,

what type of knots are you using? I would expect a loop to loop from the braid to your wind-on, but what others if not a loop to loop? I bet you would find the set up I described above as very strong and low profile to run through your guides. I would bet that the double line Bimini to the Improved Albright is close to a 90% knot.

For little fish use most any line or knots

I fish big fish only and use JB 80 or 100 hollow with loops for BFT.

For the next layer down, I use Diawa Boat braid and floro with a Page-Rankin knot at near 100% strength. 360 tuna has extensive testing of knots wet and dry with various combinations.

If my line must be redone on the boat I do not attempt a Page-Rankin and use the Sebille knot at less strength.

Remember if your fish will not push your line limits all this discussion is academic.

My point is that those jigging heavy fish use a much higher percentage of line strength to test knots.

Your improved Albright on the Bimini will probably be close to what you quoted. I also use a 80 lb popping outfit for BFT where I can accept NO knots for casting heavy lures.

Hope I have explained my special needs. My original response here was not to question anyones knots but using Power PRo as the foundation for your terminal gear.

    No power pro

Ok Va randy, my point to all this is bascially using the braid, whichever is perfered, as a backing for more line capacity-not for jigging. I only troll offshore and want to put a heavy top shot on the spool for our spreader bars but dont want to lose the line capacity. Hollow braid is nice but from what i have told is it like a sail in the wind when trolling unlike mono. I have never used hollow braid so i dont know.
