Even for trolling, you are still dependent on the knot for the conversion to mono.. You have the option of using hollow braid as a filler (it is much more than that, it gives you much more capacity for emergency and unusual fish). You can use the hollow braid and mate it to the mono in a seamless and 100 % connection.
To be perfectly clear, braid, hollow or not makes a very poor choice for trolling. Braid wrapping other braid or even one braid getting in your mono can end your day. It does not clear easily.Even if you have 250 yards of mono on top of the braid, you don't want the braid in the water without a significant fish on it (which means clearing everything else quickly).

A topshot of mono on braid makes a lot of sense because most breakoffs or line deterioration are on the mono and when new mono is put on, the entire connection is good as new.

If you have not looked into hollow braid connected seamlessly to mono, you should do it.

Hollow braid is nice but from what i have told is it like a sail in the wind when trolling unlike mono. I have never used hollow braid so i dont know.
