Just Gotta Know, For USA Sake
I've heard like everyone else that Penn Reel's has been sold to a Chinese outfit. Some say that all the reel's will not be made there. So if anyone know's for the record, what will and what will not be made in the Communist Republic of China? I personally hope all including myself will take note of the list. Maybe if some of the owner's or member's of the Board of Director's are still AMERICAN, they will consider going back to Made In The USA at some point. I'm not against other countrie's making toothbrushes, toy's and hairnet's,they have to make a living too. But there are some product's that just plain should be made here in the USA, Penn Reel's is one of them. Kinda like buying a firearm made in the Czech Republic. It just ain't AMERICAN. Frank,SeaPower
Last I heard from an area distributor all reels except gold label reels are made in china. That means international baitcasters and big game reels are still made in the usa. Some parts for these reels are coming from china but they are keeping a ghood portion of the big game reels made in the USA and they are assembled here.
Hello.....Gradyfish is correct. Most of your top-end Penn equipment is still made here in our plant in Philadelphia. Some parts are made by outside vendors. All your International series including your baitcasters, graphite lever drags,Senator reels etc. are made here in the U.S.A.All of your spinners have been made overseas for a few years already. And a small amount of low end conventional reels are also made off-shore.Penn is now under the direction of Jarden/Pure Fishing and we seem to be heading in a positive direction for the first time in a long time.We have some people in place that have some good ideas that should put Penn back into the game to stay. We've been reconnecting with the public much more than in the past.We made a nice tour of some of the bigger tournaments this past summer also. They included the Shark,Tuna and Mid-Atlantic tournaments in Cape May and the White Marlin Tournament in Ocean City,Maryland in August. We were very well received and people were glad just to have a real live person to talk to about equipment, updates or just general questions. We plan to be back out on the circuit again in 2009 that much more.
I hope I've answered some questions people may have been having about Penn Reel Mfg.If anyone has any questions or needs help with technical issues, please feel free to contact me.
Take care.............Tom

Please bring back the TW series. Those things were true workhorses season after season. Not so with the new V series.
I needed a couple of new reels this season and could not find the old TW's anywhere...had to go to the other brand.
I stopped buying Penn reels a while back after running into way too many problems. Over the past couple years, however, I think Penn really got back on the right track. I think the new Torque series and VSX reels are great products -- as good as any out there. I'm no longer passing over Penn.

Could you please tell our audience where your rod blanks come from and where they are assembled / built
Thank you
Hello....The Penn rods have been made overseas (China) for quite a long time now....maybe 6-7 years or more. Most of the time if something breaks on the rod,the whole rod will be replaced....most times at no cost.As long as it is under warranty or damaged without being abused,we'll cover the replacement.I don't think you'll see Penn rods per se in the future. Since we are under the Jarden umbrella, and Ugly Stick is one of are partner companies,Penn will deal mostly with reels, not rods.I hope I've helped answer your question in some manner. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
