    Jigging rod blank suggestions.

Well, I have been fighting myself w regards to actually building/buying a jigging rod, but I think I am now at a place where I want to make one. I am going to be matching it to my 870 Boss which I will use 50# braid (actually dacron most likely). What I want is a rod that is 6 foot overall and not overly costly.

Looking for ideas on a good blank. figuring 40-60# line class.
Anyone have any experience w "Vertical Jigging Blanks" brand as seen in Mudhole? This is one I am going to need to ask forgiveness w the wife for it... so I can't spend more than $120 or so total build... or else my forgiveness will cost me dearly.

I have a Riley 200g that I like as well as a Jig Master Power Spell 350g that I like.

The JM is a little more high end than you are looking for, I don't think you can go wrong with a Riley.

Jared, the American Tackle or the batson blanks will not go wrong for you. For an economical build, they are phenominal.

If you need help with either one, get up with me or Mike and we can help you out.

Can't comment on the blanks as I'm in the same position trying to figure out what blank to use for my first jigging rod. I think you might need to bump up your budget as $60 blank, $40 guides and $20 reelseat doesn't leave anything for grips, thread, finish etc.

As to line on the your reel, I highly recomend with using braid over dacron. If you are jigging to any appreciable depth and with any appreciable tide the larger dia dacron will need a heavier jig to overcome the drag against the dacron. The key is to use the lightest jig possible, and hence braid is the only way to go.

I'd like to second Riley Rods. Capt. Mike won't steer you wrong. I'd also suggest any thing that flatliner said.
