    Austin,
If you can get your hands on Dale Clemens book "Advanced Custom Rodbuilding" it's a must have- it's sort of like the bible for rod builders. Mudhole.com is a great place to start, too, as they have a lot of 101s as well as selling complete kits for people to get started. I did a thread a while back which should give you a place to start. Other than that, post up any questions as there are some really top notch rod builders that frequent this site.

    Austin,

There is a great DVD out by Steve Petri. All you will need to get started. Dale Clemmons books you will need definitely, but a little to complex if just starting out. Good luck rod building is extremely addicting.

    Austin,
Shoefish's Tuna Rod Start to finish is awesome for the steps. There are also some free videos on Mudhole's site that will show you some of the basics of wraps - WWW.Mudhole.com

Dale Clemens has a great book and so does Tom Kirkman

As fas as components go - Check with Paul708 - he has better prices than Mudhole. You can also try www.donartrods.com

if you can get a "hands on" lesson it would be alot easier than a book. and save alot of trial and error.
