HELP-Saltist Drag Washer Replacement

I just received and attempted to install a set of Smooth drag carbon fiber washer in my saltist 30TH. Everything went in smoothly and I thought I had everything back together correctly. UNTIL, I tried tightening the drag and turning the handle; the tighter the drag is tightened the more difficult it becomes to turn the handle.. I can not for the life of me figure out what I did wrong.

Any ideas???????

You have the spacers out of order. I did it myself but caught it before i put it back together. Daiwa's diagram is really inaccurate and poorly illustrated.

Check these areas:

The washer/spacer arrangement



And make sure you align these properly



I suspect your exact problem is here. It happened to me.

Thanks, I think I had the anti-reverse ratchet under the anti-reverse pawl.

One more question.. Is there another type of reel grease that you could recommend to use on the drag washers?? I though I had some shimano but is looks like I am out. I know ya'll all like shimano and cal's, but no one in my area seems to have any of those in stock. What about that Hot Sauce? Or another type to use temporarily?? I might just put them in dry until I can get some good grease in..

Where are you? NJ? There's a couple local shops that carry it. I would be cautious what grease you throw in there. Just whatever you do...no white lithium.

I would try to find some type of "reel grease" vs. "reel lube". The lube is a lower viscosity and not really meant for friction plate/clutch plate systems.

Don't use another type of grease JRJB - Cal's and Shimano drag grease are designed to operate at the high temperatures that a reel's drag can produce. If you can't source it locally you can order the Cal's drag grease online from CharkBait.
