    Question Help! Which Reel??

I am trying to decide which reel to buy and would like some advice from all of you. I need a good reel for shark fishing and possibly small tuna off the NH and MA coast. I was wondering if a Senator would be okay (114 or 114h 525/50 and 475/50) but was leaning towards more expensive reels. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg (or a head) , I just want a good, reliable reel. Besides the Senator I am looking at the Shimano T150A and T150WA and the Penn 50 VSW and 50 TW. Also, I saw a good deal on an Okuma Titus Gold 50W II 2-Speed and was wondering what kind of reputation they have. Should 2 speed be a priority in a reel getting this type of use?? Any ideas on rods would be nice too
Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks

Nice to see someone else from the area, where do you fish out of?

If you're going out around here and you want a less expensive reel, go with a Shimano TLD25. We've fished these around here for years and they're dynamite. If you'd like to spend a bit more and want the last reel you'll ever need then it's the tiagra 30. Both of those reels will handle all the blue dogs and makos we get, and will handle the footballs as well.

I agree with Deep. That 50tld is a nice reel and can put a hurtin' on most fish out there.

dont count out avets, got a set this year and loved them, ex30 narrow or wide should prlly fit you well, the also have one a size down either jx or and lx i dont remember which that is simliar in size to a tld 25. as far as rods go you can always look into getting them custom done, i know a few guys that post on here make them. I have another guy whose prices are very reasonable and does great work, i dont wanna infringe on neones business her but if you want his name and number pm me

I'll second the Avet 30 reels. They are nice for standup and have awesome drags for a factory reel. I have even landed makos over 200#'s on my little sx. This spring my goal is a 300 plus thresher on the little sx. Pics to come!

Well hopefully we'll see you around on the site here and on the water this spring. When you get the reels, stick to a 25 or 30 size. It's all you'll need around here if you want a sporty fight. Now if you're going after gbft that's another story...
