    Guide Underwrap.

I have had this rod, a Cal-Star tuna blank 50-80 stand up in the closet for about 5 years now. Just been to lazy to finish it. I decided yesterday to jump on it. I had previously put on the uni-butt coupler and the fore grip, but hadn't wanted to get after the guides as I wanted to do a "negative" of the sister rod this was matching. (Its a gator blank cut to the same length and same guides/placement. I had wanted to do silver under wrap and gold/black chevrons)

I decided instead to just play around with different designs and came up with this, a reverse chevron. (don't know what else to call it...) I started the chevron in one direction, then reversed about 2/3s the way through. It came out pretty good, but some of the gold thread started to unravel as I put tension on it. I will have to seal the thread to see if I can get it stay together. What do ya'll think?

    Jared,
That looks sweet! Put another coat of finish on the guidewrap that you posted in #2. The left wrap has finish showing. Other thatn that, it is wonderful!!!

Also, once you put the color preserver on it, start packing when it gets sticky and those threads will tighten up and stay packed.

    Awesome job, bro!!!!

Thanks guys. I am trying to decide if I should be lazy and just do a quick "flash" on the rest of the guides or do it right and put a similar wrap under the rest of the roller guides. The other rod I did had one of the patterns a little off center line so I became aggravated with it. I really just want to finish this one. I used to do 1 or 2 a month, but none of mine had the class and style the ones on here have!

Jesus H C, Jared, in the words of Chevy Chase in Caddyshack, "Don't sell yourself short, your a tremendous slouch!!!"

Just kiddin. You are in fact selling yourself short, your threadwork is great. I would either do a chevron under the guides, or just trim bands (Silver Black and Gold) under the guides!

Keep it up man, your doing great!!!

Jared, you have done and doing a great job here, keep at it. If we don't chanlange ourselfs, we will never get better.

I use to do custom stairs in big fancy houses, I finely got to where at one time I was one of the best in my town and in great demand. I did not start on the top, I slowly worked my way to the top. Doing anything well, takes doing it over and over again to get better. Yes there will be mastakes made along the way, thats how we learn.

You are ahead of the game and don't realize it. Some times it is easer for others to see than ourselfs...
