    Gaff Wrap

After watching Kevin's video on gaff wrapping I said what the heck, sounds like a good idea and fun. Plus, I figured I could use some more practice on thread wrapping, applying Abalone, and finishing. I took one of my gaffs and applied Abalone, and wrapped it. I really like the way this grip feels compared to the foam grips that were on it.

    Here are the results.

Yup, the bigger brush and putting on thinner coats made a world of difference.

These turks heads had 4 wraps, it was my first time useing them so it took my a little while to figure out how to tighten them (I bought the knots already tied).

This is how it worked for me I don't know if there are other ways to do it, but it worked for me and I'm happy with the results.

I started on the bottom (the end away from the tag ends), useing a pick I pulled all 4 cords tight, then worked my way around and up the not doing this every spot they crossed. When you get to the tag end you pull it and 1 wrap is tight. Then worked my way all the way around the knot again only this time pulling the remaining 3 wraps, then just repeated this process until I was done. So each time around I used the picked to get the remaining loose cords (4-3-2-1-done). It took a little while, but they are tight and look good.

This would be a great video subject, its kind of hard to explain in writing.

Hmmm! Can I drop off my gaffs??? That is some slick stuff! Once again we see the attention to detail of the flight instructor....

    MM,
If ponce decides not to go into business, I can do them for you, no problem. Its rather economical to rebuild old ones and they come out looking like new!!!
