    Fishing Knot Question

Hey guys. I got a quick question

When tying a bottom rig. We tie 3 loops. 1 for sinker and 2 for the hooks.

I was always taught for the sinkers, tie a double overhand knot. Dont know the real name, but its a over hand knot that you go through itself twice.

And the hooks we always tied the same over hand knot, but going through it's self 3 times in stead of two.

There was a discussion the other day about that knot. They said that the 3 over hand knot will slip very easily if you had a big fish.

They said that the dropper knot is a lot stronger and will never slip. If you dont know what it is, its kinda hard to explain how to tie it. Just make a big loop, then twist about 6 times then pull the end of the loop back through where you twisted at..

But, does anyone know if that triple overhand knot slips? Has anyone seen it slip? Thanks

    knot so strong

it sounds like a clinch knot your useing, look on utube for a uni knot or a polamar knot ,both are strong and won't slip .

What you a making is called a chicken rig.

A double or triple surgeons loop will slip when the ends are pulled in this fashion. Use a dropper knots as suggested, the more you tie them the easier they get. Also at the end of your rig tie a small swivel and a short piece of lighter line
(40#) with a loop to connect your bank sinker, this lighter line will break if you get hung up and you may save your rig, plus it lets the sinker spin without getting line twist.
