    First Generation Penn International Question

I have been collecting first generation Penn Internationals. I have noticed that the tops on some of the clickers are open, and the tops on others appear to have a cap on them. At first I thought that some of them were just missing the cap, but it seems unlikely that several of them that I already have, and a number of others that I have looked at, all in close to, or new shape would be missing this cap. Is this a legitimate variation in these reels, and if so, are the capless ones the earlier ones? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Old school Internationals

I have several old Internationals, none of them has a cover on the clicker. I would suspect that they are commonly removed to allow lubrication of the nut, and to keep salt from collecting under there.
Also, its probably the first thing on the reel to be worked on, as the stock clicker is pretty quiet, and prone to jumping to the off position under load.

When I want to determine the real market value of something like that I log on to ebay and search the item in "completed listings." That shows if they sold, and how much they actually sold for. After finding a few similar examples you should be able to come up with an average to use as a fair market value.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Its hard to get much for them because they arent actually in big demand as antiques, especially if they're cosmetically poor, and the newer stuff overshadows them technically.
Parts are becoming increasingly hard to get, penn has even "grayed out" the parts diagram online, making it extremely hard to read.
