    evinrude lower unit ?

    doing some maintnance today i found one engin with milky lower unit oil. i know i need to have it checked out and pressure tested but what kind of cost could i be looking at. im sure there are a dozen things that could happen just looking for a ball park kick in the balls. thanks dave

    Look to the easy thing, check the seal at the water pump, has it been replaced resently or is it in need of a new water pump. May be nothing other than a bad seal, replace it, run the motor for a shot run and check the new LU oil to see...

    I read on a few other websites,that there is a company making rebuilds for $800.00,and so far so good with the guys who have used them....

    The seal below the impeller, should be an easy fix.

    make sure the shaft (where the seal sits) is not grooved or pitted though!!
