Difference between the Saragosa 18000 and the 14000

Guys,

I have a question about the difference between the Shimano Saragosa 18000 and the Saragosa 14000. Shimano list the specs on these reels as:

SRG14000F 20/350, 25/290, 30/220, 50/600, 65/390, 80/315 28.7 oz

SRG18000F 20/380, 25/310, 30/250, 50/655, 65/440, 80/345 28.4 oz

It seems strange that Shimano would create a new product for about 30 extra yards of line and .3 ounces less weight. The differences are too small.

Also the logic in the numbers seems off. There is only a 30 yard difference at 20 pound test... a 20 yard difference at 25 pound test...but there is a 55 yard difference at 50 pound test... and back to a 30 yard difference at 80 pound test... huh? If the spool is bigger, shouldn't the line quantity difference increase as the line test class decreases?

Is there anything else I am missing?

Mike

P.S. Who the heck writes the specs for fishing equipment in general? Simple logic never seems to apply and specs are always less than 50% accurate nor are they 50% consistent.

Just get the 18000 or the Fin Nor 9500 (450yds of izorline 80 solid) That's the actual not the media hype. The 18 will hold as much 65 as the 14 does 50# I bought a quantum 80 that has 430yds of 65 My 14000 spheros has 500 of 50# You really want 65# if your going to the bank the 50 cannot take any rubbing compared to the 65. I had a tailwrapped fish on in the 150# range fought it for about 25 minutes had color when it took off and finally broke. If I had 50 we would have never got to color. The reel I will choose next will be a 9500 fin Unless Quantum comes out with a 90 series
FWIW My quantum has yanked on some large fish this year the drag is silky smooth even after 2hrs on a fish that reel pulls 42#s of drag max so it has plenty of overhead It is definately more corrosion resistant than the shimano or penn in my experience with those 3 reels
