MR Alan, what do you think of the Saltist line? I am planning on buying a Saltist 20 level wind in the vary near future.

the new one's may have a greased carbon fiber drag washer. it that is the case, you need only lube the bearings on occasion and you've got an excellent long lasting reel!

    Jay and Jim,
You are referring to the right side plate bushing and replacing it with a bearing. The Saltist indeed has a plastic bushing here (whereas the Saltiga has a bearing). I did the conversion using a Boca bearing (about $8.00). The Boca part number for the 30T,40, & 50 is :

    SMR693-ZZ #5.
To be honest, I can't tell the difference as there is virtually no load where this bushing is (there is a bearing supporting the load just inside of this bushing). If you were to use the Saltist for casting, maybe a slight difference--- but other than that, I think its kind of a waste of time and $8.00-- but hey, what's 8 bucks when it comes to our toys?

Now those Smoothdrag Carbon washer upgrades I put in are a different story, I feel it was money and time well spent. My Saltist came from the factory with the drags greased somewhat.
