    Dad's rod restoration

My pop passed away some seven years ago. I found the fishing rod he used since I was a little boy. Not the best of shape since he had used it during his 50+ years of fishing.
attached is before and after pictures.
A shout out to Nuno Paulino for his outstanding assistance.

Thats a great job! Now fish it once and raise a glass to your Pop and then put it on the wall for years of memories!!

VERY nice restoration. I like that you stayed true to the original design and didn't try to update it. Besides sentimental value, the style of threadwork is part of where the character of the rod lies.

It's funny, but your dad probably didn't put too much sentiment into that stick, yet the fact that you grew up around it and always saw it as "Dad's fishing rod" gives it that value to you. And I'm sure he's looking down at your work and smiling.

I've got a few of my Dad's old rods too. I've restored the reels and still use them often, but it's long time to rework them and I wish I had the time and tools to do what you did.

Really nice work, and thanks for sharing.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

    Great Job.

Cool Stuff. I too like the vintage stuff with some family value. My Dad's old boat rod is now a light in my boys room, complete with reel, thanks to his handiness.

My dads old Penn Seagate (pre WWII I think)has been completely restored and I've actually fished it.

got a few Harnell's I've redone, a few Montagues, and a Garcia Conlon and a few others laying around on display, not to mention @60 Penn conventionals(1/0 - 16/0) and probably 20 or so Penn greenies/Z's laying around in the office. Everyone of them is ready to spool up and fish if I had to.

Now if i was only given the opportunity!!

I might've actually had an oleskool roller tiptop in the pic for you. If you still want it, let me know the tube diameter and I'll tell you if it will fit. I think they are MILDRUMS?
