    couple of questions

Color Preserver I have been using the tronak Cp and have been happy. Anything better out there?
Large spools of thread, how fdo I use them, made a wrong decison on ordering thread it was on sale and now I have these giant spools. They will not fit on my thread holder. any Ideas?
I have a Clemens Lathe, so what will fit it to use the large spools.
I build primarily for me and friends, not so much to the public so secrets are safe.

put the larger spools of thread on your empty small spools.

    just like filling a reel

    there are a few Cp
    most work well

flexcoat is what we teach with.
    lamar has one out.

try a few, they are cheap..pick which one you like to work with.

we have a guy in the club, he uses something form michaels arts and crafts.
buys it by the quart and cuts it.
very cheap....it works well for him.
works with thread and snakeskin, feathers.

    JW,
Put the smaller empty spools that you have onto a pencil or small diameter rod and lock that axel into the the clemens lathe head like you would attach a rod blank. Now you can fill the spool from the larger one. Its important that when you fill the spool that you do NOT introduce twist into the line. So, hold the large spool parallel to the small one and let the line come off straight. Fill the spool and then when it empties, you can refill it the same way later.
As for the color preserer, are these for inshore or offshore rods? I do not use color preserver on any of my offshore rods. The reason for this is that CP soaks into the thread and keeps finish from absorbing into the thread. On offshore rods, I want finish to soak into the thread and give complete adhesion to the blank. The CP forms a layer overtop of the threads making it impermiable. On offshore rods I feel that it is necessary to make the rod last longer for the angler.

    Hope this helps.
