    Converting convention to spiral wrap

I've been wanting to try a spiral/acid wrapped jigging rod, but don't want to go full custom yet. So I've been thinking about getting a conventional commercial rod and just re-wrapping the guides.

If I do that, can I just keep the existing number of guides and just rotate them around and re-wrap, or do I need to add another guide and hence re-space all the guides?

    the spacing may be different.
its probably best to set up the right way.
you may ned a extra guide. after you do a static test.

    Paul,

Lot of work to do all that much easier starting from scratch , than stripping guides and re-wrapping, IMO

I agree, Unless you are restoring a treasured old rod that you cannot part with.

I rewrapped a Bucara into a spiral for a friend of mine. Wasn't too bad to do! I pretty much used the same guide placements, worked out OK in static testing, too. The stripper guide placement was fine, but the next guide up was way too far forward for the bumper guide, so I wrapped over that and used that area for a bluefish decal. The running guides worked in the placements they were in before, just flipped to the 180. This is a fast action blank, so there isn't much flex down the blank,so I had more leeway.

I also did my uncle's Rogue Cod Rod into a spiral, no biggie with that one, either. I haven't done a jigging rod yet; the two I have done were both fast actions that mostly shut off way up the blank.

I've re-wrapped several for myself and friends. Key is to use 2 transition guides. Stripper remains in place but the next two guides are set at 60* and 120* off the spline/reelseat.

The number and placement of the transition/bumper guides depends on the blank, it's action, etc. No hard and fast rules at the degree angle they are placed or the number of guides. Static testing and test casting will determine that!
