    Coloring epoxy?

What products do you use to color your epoxy?

I have tried a few different things with various degrees of success. Specifically, I need to mix a batch of black, and testors isn't cutting it (comes out grey)

Years ago, Fish Poison gave me a tube of black pigment which worked well. but it was unlabeled and I don't know what it was

You can order pigments specially formulated for epoxy from any fiberglass supply (I use US Composites a lot).

You can also go to your local marine supply or auto parts store - they will have pigment for Polyester and Epoxy - in the little tubes like you had.

I just happened to notice that Riley Rods (advertiser) carries powdered pigments - looks like solid colors as well as metallics.

I haven't had a chance to try any yet, but when I used to build canoes and kayaks, I preferred powdered pigments to liquid, as there is no binder to affect the curing of the resin...

These pigments are the bomb! Super concentrated and ultra fine enough for an airbrush.

This rainbow one is glass over foam core with pipette bursts of various colors on a thin coat of epoxy just to experiment.

$7 for a 1oz jar will last a long tome. You only need a tiny bit.

    Some other recent ones.

Joe I ordered the sample pack from US composites that clt capt recommended. worked out great, very vivid colors. but it "behaves" very differently than the testors-mixed epoxy. I think the testors thins out the epoxy and allows it to spread and blend more. either good or bad depending on the look you want.

No excuses - how did you do those grey marbled ones? I like that look but have not been able to duplicate it

    Gun Metal Black Candy pigment.

You need to time it just right. With my epoxy (RR-321) right at the 25 minute point it starts to set and will suspend the pigment and retain the two shades. You can use different brush strokes and different rpms to get the looks you are trying for (4 out of 8 in this pic are the Gun Metal). Up to that point the pigment will still sink.
